rAMPage Weekend Will Feature Mystery Headliner

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Mount students received an email from the Office of Campus Activities concerning which artist they want to see perform at rAMPage weekend for the 2018 spring semester.  AMP provided eight options of artists, covering multiple genres of music, including R&B, Soul, Pop, Hip Hop, Trap, Indie, and Pop Rock.  Students were encouraged to vote for three of the following eight talents.

The first option was Eric Bellinger, who is a singer, songwriter, and record producer from Los Angeles.  Some of his most notable co-writing credits include “Disrespectful” by Trey Songz, “Right Here” by Justin Bieber, “Lemme See” by Usher, and “New Flame” by Chris Brown.  In 2011, he won a Grammy in the category of Best R&B Album for contribution to Chris Brown’s album, F.A.M.E. Bellinger released his first album titled The Rebirth in 2014.

Second up was Bas, a rapper from Jamaica, Queens.  Bas is singed to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records.  He has released two albums, Last Winter, and Too High to Riot.  You can find his music on YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio.

Next up came Gnash, perhaps one of the most commonly known artists from the list.  Two of his biggest hits include “i hate u, i love u,” which features Olivia O’Brien, and his collaboration with MAX called “Lights Down Low.”

The fourth option given was O.T. Genasis, an American Hip Hop/Trap artist.  His single “Touchdown (Remix)” features Busta Rhymes and French Montana, while another one of his singles, “CoCo,” hit number twenty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Number five was The Hunna, an English Indie and Pop Rock band.  They are currently on a worldwide tour starting in the U.S. and will be visiting Paris, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Poland, and more.  They are a band known to bring a ton of energy and create a super fun atmosphere at their concerts.

The sixth artist we could vote for was Jacquees, an R&B and Hip Hop singer/songwriter.  He has worked with popular artists such as Chris Brown, T.I., and Young Thug.  Jacquees’ independently released EP, 19, which features Chris Brown, debuted at number fifteen on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B Albums.  Recently, his single “B.E.D.” has charted at seventy five on the Billboard Hot 100.

The seventh was Alex Aiono, a Pop/R&B artist with a large YouTube following of over five million subscribers and over half a billion views on his videos.  His mashup of Drake‘s “One Dance” and Nicky Jam’s “Hasta el Amanecer” received more than 50 million views on YouTube.  Additionally, his sing-off with Conor Maynard, which was released on Conor’s channel, now has over 88 million views.

The last artist on the list, but definitely not the least, was Skylar Grey, who co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s hit, “Love the Way You Lie.”  She is a guest vocalist on many singles including Diddy’s “Coming Home,” Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor,” Nicki Minaj’s “Bed of Lies,” and Macklemore’s “Glorious.”

It will be interesting to see who of these eight ends up here at the Mount for this year’s rAMPage weekend.  Make sure to stay tuned for results within the next few weeks!
