On Dec. 5, Mount graduate and former Frederick Police Officer, Daniel C. Grimes took his oath of office as a FBI Special Agent at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. This induction ceremony capped the 21-week Basic Field Training Course of the 17-04 New Agent Training Session. Grimes graduated with honors from the FBI Academy attaining the title of Section ‘B’ Team Leader and receiving the FBI Director’s Award for Leadership. His first duty station assignment will be at the Boston Field Division of the FBI.
The induction ceremony was attended by family and friends to cheer his achievements and share in the moment of the day. Grimes attributes his accomplishments on this day to those who mentored and encouraged him every step of the way.
“No one person ever deserves praise without recognizing the many others that have faith in you and mold your life,” Grimes said. “To be successful in law enforcement, respect for those you serve and the support you receive from your fellow officers and superiors is indispensable.”
Mount Professor Joseph Vince, who attended the ceremony described Grimes as the standard-bearer for those aspiring to pursue a similar career. “It is true that Dan always had aspirations to succeed at the highest levels in law enforcement, and through education, training and much hard work, he has attained that goal.”
“However,” Vince continued, “his deepest ambition has always been to make the world a better place for all Americans he will now serve.”
Grimes is a native of Frederick, Md. and attended Thomas Johnson High School and St. John’s Regional Catholic School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2009 where he served in Naval Intelligence, both stateside and abroad, until 2012. While stationed in Japan in 2011, because of his prior paramedic training, he waived leave to assist those injured in the aftermath of the Tsunami and earthquake that occurred off the coast of Tōhoku.
Upon his return to civilian life, Grimes became a Frederick City Police Officer graduating from that academy in June 2014 with honors. While serving as one of Frederick’s Finest, he enrolled at the Mount, majoring in Criminal Justice. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in May 2016 and furthered his educational pursuits in the Mount’s Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) Program.
Grimes will be pursuing his career in Boston with his wife, Mary Beth, and two daughters. His mother, Terry Joyce, is a Frederick County Public School Teacher at New Market Elementary School.
