Mount Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving took on Howard on Nov. 3. The Women won 117-106 to improve to 5-0, the best start to a season in program history, while the Men fell 123-91.
The Women claimed wins in six events, starting with junior Mary Lombardi and senior Bridget Vaughn taking first and second in the 1000 freestyle. Lombardi clocked in with a time of 11:07.60, with Vaughn finishing close behind at 11:23.11.
Lombardi also claimed the top spot in the 500 free, touching the wall at 5:40.38. She was followed by senior JeMoon Won in second with a time of 5:40.38.
Juniors Lauren Gullickson and Alyssa Felos gave the Mount an edge in the 100 breaststroke; Gullickson took first at 1:09.54, followed by Felos in second at 1:10.41. First-year Juliet Whitman brought another victory in the 100 fly, hitting the wall at 1:01.16
Sophomore Maggie deTar brought a pair of first place finishes, finishing the 100 free with a time of 55.66 and the 200 free at 2:00.20.
Sophomore diver Peyton Fuller took home the second place spot in the 1-meter dive with a score of 185.85, followed by junior Laci Vickery (161.85) and sophomore Laura Kingham (152.50).
On the Men’s side, the Mountaineers walked away with four first-place finishes. Sophomore Will Twizell brought two of these, posting times of 1:59.04 in the 200 IM and 54.46 in the 100 back, just out touching a Howard swimmer.
First-year Nick Starvaggi claimed first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:27.14. Junior Eiann Bulatao brought another first-place finish in 1-meter diving with a score of 163.75 to close out the Mount’s wins.
Swimming & Diving will hit the pool again Nov. 17-19 in Lancaster, Pa. for the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
