The Mount’s Women’s Lacrosse team will be getting a new addition to their coaching staff for the upcoming season!
On Aug. 28th, 2017 Head Coach Lauren Schwarzmann announced that Steph Lazo will become an assistant coach in an effort to improve the team’s overall “experience, positive energy and leadership.”
Lazo, who graduated from Penn State in 2017 was honored with a spot on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association First Team-All American Team after leading the Nittany Lions to two back-to-back NCAA Semifinal appearance.
While a 4-year student athlete, Lazo accumulated 211 pts on 122 goals and 89 assists, earning her seventh place on the all-time points list as well as seventh place in the assists category for Penn State.
“I would like to thank Coach Schwarzmann and the administration at Mount St Mary’s University for the opportunity to begin my collegiate coaching career,” said Lazo. “I am excited to bring my knowledge and experience of the sport that I love to the coaching profession. I’m looking forward to working with a great group of student-athletes, and taking this program to the next level of competition.”
Last season, the Mount went 4-11 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Despite graduating their top two point scorers, sophomore duos, Kate Kinsella and Carly Miller, who combined for a total 52 pts will be returning.
