The season has been quickly winding down for the Mount Women’s Tennis team who recently finished their final three matches of their season before heading to the NEC Tournament.
On April 6, the women headed to Baltimore to face Loyola, a team which they have had trouble with in the past. The team was able to start the match off strong by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. First year Alexa Quintanilla was the first off the court earning the second point of the match for the Mount by beating her opponent in two sets. Sruthi Kamprath was able to follow the lead beating her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Senior, Kelly Smith was able to secure the win for the Mount by coming back in three sets against the number three seed. Hannah Davis was able to gain another point for the Mount at spot five, making the final score of the match 5-2.
Next, the women traveled to Easton, Pa. on April 16 to face Lafayette University. The match was off to a rough start when the team lost the doubles point after only winning one doubles match in three close matches. Singles, proved to be a different game for the Mount. The Mount was able to win every singles spot with the exception of the second seed. Wins were posted in two sets by Quintanilla, Erin Benefiel, and Davis, while Kamprath and Emma Blake fought hard in three sets to both earn points for the Mount and posting another 5-2 win in total.
For the final match of the season, the Mount was able to welcome Hartford Community College to their home courts on April 18 to host them for Senior Day where seniors Benefiel and Smith were honored. The match was able to both start and finish strong posting a win in every match that went onto the court for a 7-0 win.
The women will head to New Jersey on April 20 to compete in the NEC Tournament in the upcoming weekend. The team is scheduled to take on Bryant University at 9:00am Friday morning in the first round.
