Spirits were high on Saturday night as the class of 2016 gathered together to enjoy a live karaoke band and free drinks. 1808 was packed with seniors celebrating 100 days to graduation. The AMP and SGA co-sponsored event featured seniors singing with a live band, enjoying drinks and spending time with their classmates.
At the beginning of last semester, AMP and SGA hosted an outdoor live piano bar for the senior class, which was extremely well received. However, SGA decided to switch things up this semester by having live band karaoke. Rosalyn Smaldone, said that she enjoyed how live band karaoke engaged the students more.
Throughout the night, groups of seniors and individuals sang on stage with some new and old favorites. Some memorable performances include “Blank Space” and “We Are Never, Ever, Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift, “All the Small Things” by Blink 182, “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus, “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers and “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green. Everyone in the audience enjoyed the performances and eagerly sang along with their favorite songs.
Even when the band went offstage for a break, the audience continued to sing loudly along with the songs that AMP played over the speaker system. Everyone enjoyed spending time with their class.
Anthony Adams declared that “karaoke night was one of the best nights I’ve had on campus. Everything was amazing, all my friends were there and the band was amazing. It was a night I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Megumi Madura, said that while she had a wonderful time at karaoke, she personally had a better time at the piano bar. “I think the atmosphere really added to the event [piano bar]; being outside in the warm weather was so nice!” Smaldone added that piano bar being outside was, “pretty hard to beat”.
Senior live-band karaoke was a hit. But, I don’t think that any senior would decline a second outside piano bar when the weather warms up.
