The Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis team traveled to the Mason Tennis Facility in Fairfax, Virginia to face off against George Mason this past Sunday. The Patriots took the doubles point as the sophomore team of Darren Mast and Louis Tonon fell the George Mason’s Nick Barker and Aaron Capitel 8-3. That was followed by another Mount loss as the tandem of junior Austin Blake and freshman Brandon Wortkotter lost 8-2 to Tanner Baine and Daniel Gutierrez.

The Patriots wrapped up their sweep of the doubles point when their pairing of Joe Hill and Jimmy Lange took down the Mount’s top doubles team of senior Adam Salam and sophomore Mateo Desomocurcio 8-3.  Singles competition did not go much better for the Mountaineers, as Gutiererrez defeated Mount junior Peter Salomon 6-4, 6-0 at the six spot.

George Mason’s number five Nick Barker then won against Tonon 6-2, 6-3. Darren Mast was also unsuccessful in the number four spot against Connor Moran in straight sets of 6-2. In the number three spot, Salam failed to register a point as he was bested by Mason’s Joe Hill 6-0, 6-0.

Desomocurcio had a slightly better fight in the number two spot against Capitel, but still fell 6-4, 6-3. George Mason would complete the 7-0 sweep in the number one spot as Lange defeated Blake 6-0, 6-1. The Mount will attempt to redeem themselves in the NEC conference quarterfinals against Wagner this Friday, as their Tuesday match-up with Loyola was cancelled.
