The Mount men’s and women’s cross country teams headed to Princeton, NJ last Saturday for the Princeton Invitational on West Windsor Field. Over 50 colleges were represented there; including conference rivals such as LIU Brooklyn, Sacred Heart, and St. Francis (PA). It was the Mount’s first appearance in the event since 2010.
The women began the day with their races, in which the Mount placed 30th overall. Senior Kristen Galligan was the standout runner for the Lady Mountaineers, placing 23rd overall out of the field of 288. Galligan, coming off her Northeast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors earlier month, finished the 6k race in a time of 22:12. Senior Megan Schott placed 154th (23:49) while fellow senior McKenzie Doyle finished 188th (24:14). Freshman Jill Greenwald and senior Desi Scott made up the rest of the Mount’s top five for that race.
Senior Tommy Gruschow, who earned NEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week a few weeks ago, paced the Mountaineers for the men’s team, who finished 34th overall as a unit. Gruschow placed 179th out of 301 competitors, running the 8k course in 26:40. Freshman Chris Evans placed second for the team, notching a time of 26:34. Seniors Jesse Langton and Chris Jewell, along with junior Kieran Tonero, rounded out the top five for the Mountaineer men’s team. Both cross country squads will return to action when they toe the line for the NEC Championships on Saturday, November 1st at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
