This past weekend, the Mount St. Mary’s women’s tennis team headed up to Lewistown, Pennsylvania to participate in the Bucknell Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Mount put together a strong first day of action picking up three singles and three doubles wins. In singles play, freshman Sruthi Kamprath continued her strong fall season with a 6-1, 6-1 flight B victory over Bucknell’s Aida Diop, while fellow freshman Cassandra Powell added her first collegiate victory in singles action. Junior Isabella Draper cruised to a straight-set 6-2, 6-0 win over Samantha Smith of Bloomsburg. In doubles action, the all-freshman duo of Kamprath and Powell defeated Alyssa McAndrew and Emilie Bush from Bucknell. Sisters Jennifer and Kelly Smith were also victorious by a 8-2 margin over Diop and Caitlin Flynn from Bloomsburg. In flight B doubles, Danielle Nguyen and Erin Benefiel beat Iliana Anapolsky and Lindsey Tennis of Bloomsburg.
The Mount returned to action on Saturday, again turning in another strong performance, winning one doubles and five singles matches. In the flight A singles bracket, teammates Erin Benefiel and Kelly Smith squared off with Benefiel earning the victory. Danielle Nguyen also added a flight B singles victory, defeating Lindsey Tennis of Bloomsburg. Cassandra Powell and Jennifer Smith both notched flight C victories in singles play on the afternoon. Powell beat Bucknell’s Allie Lane and Jennifer Smith was victorious against Catherine Garrity of Bloomsburg. Continuing her winning ways, Isabella Draper picked up another singles victory against Bloomsburg’s Caitlin Flynn. Competing in flight B doubles, Draper and Sam Barbato took down Lindsey Tennis and Iliana Anapolsky of Bucknell. Next up, the Mount will take on Shepherd on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
